Freshly arrived at Cocoon Booking, Circo Loco and DC10 resident, playing at festivals such as Burning Man festival (Nevada desert) or Fusion (Berlin countryside), alongside the biggest names in techno… You would think that Guillaume Duchastel de Montrouge, aka DJ W!LD, arrives like a tornado on the electronic music scene in 2010. But these last 2 years rather mark his comeback behind the decks, although already recognized as a producer or International DJ.
Elusive, unpredictable, underground, DJ W!LD makes his way following his feelings and the ones he's meeting. Born in 1975, his journey into music starts in the 80's in French town Dijon, when already immersed in a world funk, disco, black, groovy, he is involved in the hip-hop or graffiti trends and street culture. He's already know as W!LD, a wink to the cult motion picture "Wild style", which draws the portrait of graffiti pioneers on a soundtrack of late 70's Hip Hop New Yorkers...
In the early 90's, when techno is still considered in France as a marginal genre, promoted only by a few Parisian clubs. Laurent Garnier appears on the Dijon's scene with his residency at L'Enfer and set the first steps of this new culture in the hexagon. Directly touched by this revolution which sees the scroll god fathers of house and techno made ??in Detroit or Chicago, W!LD is fascinated, crucial fact for his future musical route...
Moving to there in 1996 and taking the desks, he's quickly DJing in the trendiest clubs in Paris : the Palace, the Queen, the Rex, etc. He meets then the DJ & producer Peter Rauhofer, and under the "House Heroes" pseudonym, they release the international hit "Magic Orgasm", Nº1 in several countries. Crowned with success, DJ W!LD will have the honor of the famous club Twilo (Danny Tenaglia's NYC residency). Besides, its multiple roundtrips in NYC still influence his sets today...
It is the explosion of the "French Touch" filtered house music, considered by some as a big marketing blow where he's not finding his way around. Rebel and independent, definitely underground, he decides to turn back to fame but also to the censorship which gets progressively techno parties illegal in France. In 1999, for no reason, he gets to Brazil, where the musical scene is not comparable to Parisian clubs : 10.000 to 15.000 techno parties, eclectic DJ-sets, awesome cultural dive which makes his DJ-skills even richer.
Back in Europe about one year later, he becomes a resident of La Démence at Fuse (Brussels) and, by the way, one of the leading DJs in the underground scene by placing his music in the gay community that dictates trends... Also attracted by production, he gets in touch with Chris Carrier and Guillaume La Tortue and releases several EP's on their labels.
His connections with fashion lead him to sign soundtracks of fashion shows for Thierry Mugler or Christian Lacroix, to collaborate with Ora Ito. He becomes resident of Citizen K parties, plays in London for the launch party of the Boudoir perfume by Vivienne Westwood, or in NYC for the after-show of Agnes B at PS1...
In 2005, he creates the "Catwash" duo with Chris Carrier. The tracks of the two musicians are released on labels such as Detour, Visitor, Crack & Speed, Adult Only or Get Physical and quickly found their way into the record bags of artists like Andrew Weatherall, Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin or Josh Wink, to name only a few. He's also launching Catwash Records, his first record label, intended to promote the duo and other artists.
In 2008, French music magazines discover Catwash, and Trax magazine nickname them as "French house most famous unknown guys"(!). Building on this success and experience as a producer, DJ W!LD will unleash his creative energy and gonna release a lot of tracks. While he had barely signed 9 EP during the first 10 years of his career, he concatenates 37 between 2008 and 2011. He finally decides to send his personal tracks to labels and signs in turn Off, Robsoul, Soweso, Adult Only, Motivbank, Love Letters from Oslo or RAL (bootleg label of Ricardo and Luciano)... His tunes, then its remix, are really welcomed by the DJ scene, a lot access to the top charts and have been licensed for compilation (Cocoon, Circo Loco, Ministry of Sound, or Renaissance). Booking requests are boosted, especially in house culture influenced countries such as Italy or Germany.
By the end of 2009, he becomes Circo Loco resident DJ, and plays in Miami WMC, at Sonar Festival and at DC10 during the whole summer 2010. His DJ sets become matchless due to that they're mostly composed of a lot of his unreleased tracks, which makes them unique.
In late 2010, DJ W!LD's career takes a new turn : he remains a resident of Circo Loco, and by the same time Sven Vath ask him to be part of the team Cocoon Booking, he frequently plays with Ricardo Villalobos, becomes resident of Cirque Bonheur Parties in Paris, while continuing to mix at the Rex Club and other more sharpened, he'is booked in the best international clubs (Matter - London, Mint - Leeds, Sub Club - Glasgow, Shankeys - Manchester, Tenax - Italy, Goa – Italy, Watergate - Germany, Mad - Lausanne, La Mania - Romania, etc..), and is now one of the headliners of house / techno.
In 2011, DJ W! LD launched a new record label, W, a place for friends and him, on which he releases his debut album "Palace", reflecting his experience and his musical influences (acid house, techno, disco, soul, etc.). The first 3 vinyl albums (W2, W3 and W4), with songs like "Take a trip", or "Palace" universally acclaimed, already acceded to the top charts. The CD version of the album will be released in the spring. Finally, a new release will arrive in the summer of 2011, fully remixed by several legends of house ...
